math

Grade 7 has started Lesson 18, "Writing, Evaluating, and Finding Equivalent Expressions with Rational Numbers.  We have been looking at phone plans and deciding what one to use for different family situations.
The standards being addressed are: 7.NS.A.3, 7.EE.A.2, 7.EE.B.4a ........................................................................................................
Grade 8 has been taking the Pythagorean Theorem assessment and we are about finished.  We will be starting a unit on congruence and using transformations to show the property.  Slides, translations, reflections, and rotations will be used.
The standard being addressed is: 8.G.A.1

math tasks

Grade 7
We are starting another section of the unit on Rational Numbers.  We are making sense of word problems, assigning variables, writing expressions and then making equations. Tape diagrams are being represented and used as a model of the problem.
Applying Operations with Rational Numbers to Expressions and Equations
7.NS.A.3, 7.EE.A.2, 7.EE.B.4a
Grade 8
We are wrapping up our work with the Pythagorean Theorem as we use the converse, given the 3 sides of a triangle we can determine if it is a right triangle, using the Pythagorean Theorem.  We will be having an assessment Thursday and Friday of this week.
8.G.B.6, 8.G.B.7, 8.G.B.8

math tasks

Grade 7
Students have review work for their mid-module assessment which will be Monday & Tuesday,
April 16 & 17th. The review work consists of two packets (1-3) & (4-7), and
Lsn 2-3 Subtracting  Integers.  We have been working on these in class.

Grade 8
The Pythagorean Theorem continues to be our area of focus. A packet, "Maintaining School Grounds" uses the Pythagorean Theorem to find lengths in various situations.  Area of a Quadrilateral is another task which requires problem  solving skills to figure out a way to find the area since the shape itself does not have a formula. We have been working on both of these this week in class.

math tasks

We are working with volumes of prisms and cylinders along with the corresponding formulas.  Last week we worked with Popcorn Prisms Anyone ? and this week we are working with Popcorn Cylinders Anyone? both of which should be completed by this Friday.  Students also have TenMarks assignments to do.
