Science Fair Celebration

Team Odyssey would like to celebrate the following students for having award winning projects:

1) Cameron Laychak- "Plant Health" project looks at the relationship of water plants and fish health.
2) Kaitlyn Tice- "Clams vs. Pollution" project investigates whether clams can help clean up water.
3) Ryan Cannon- "The Seebeck Effect" project looks at the relationship between metals, heat and electricity
4) Baylee Rock- "Acid Power Car" Lego designed car that runs on mild acids
5) Haley Dupont- "Why Bother?" Project investigates whether science fairs help foster careers in science.
6) Angeleah Rivers- "Bending Light" project investigates light refraction.
7) Michael McNeil- "Wind Power" Project created a wind turbine to power a small light.
8) Megan Humphrey- "Visualizing Climate Change" Project investigates whether making carbon emissions visible influences people's beliefs about climate change.

There were many, many more projects worthy of mentioning.  I'm proud of the hard work that all students did this year and look forward to building upon this year for next!  When we return, posters will be graded and ready to be returned to students.  Students can make corrections and improve their grades before the 2nd Trimester closes out.

LCATV Science Fair interviews online

Science Fair note from our Superintendent

The Milton Middle School Science Fair 2017 was a great success, with nearly 360 projects exhibited. Students were ably guided through the research, data collection and presentation processes by middle school staff. The results were outstanding. I was so very impressed with the confidence and scientific knowledge of the sixth, seventh and eighth graders.

Nice work young scientists!

Science Update

This past week in science, students worked on their analysis and conclusion paragraphs and should be wrapping up their projects.  This upcoming week, we will finish these important pieces and start putting together posters.

Students have been randomly assigned times and have been given a sheet with the 30 minute window of time when judges will hopefully stop by to ask questions about projects.  The science and engineering fair is on Thursday, 2/9 from 5:30-7:30pm.  Attendance is mandatory and not optional.  Students are recommended to be at the science fair at least during the time when they will be judged (on the sheet mentioned above) but the full 2 hours is recommended.   If your student cannot make it on that evening or the scheduled time does not work, please email rdecicco@mymtsd-vt.org and I will try to accommodate the request.

Team Administrivia

  1. Each student received a permission slip for the Momix.  This is an amazing dance troupe. The trip is on Monday, February 13th, at 12:00.  We will be leaving school at 11:15 and returning at 1:45.  The cost of the trip will be $12.  If this is a hardship for your family, please let Mr. Smith know.  If your students will not be going on the field trip, they are expected to be in school and will be given an alternative assignment.  Check out the link to find out more about Momix.  http://www.momix.com/portfolio-view/opus-cactus/
  2. Students were sent home with progress report packets last week.  Please review the contents of the packet with your student and sign the cover letter with them.  We would like all Odyssey students to return the signed cover letter back to the team of teachers.
