What to bring on the hike


Below is the list of what you will need to bring on the hike.

___ Hiking Boots or sneakers that offer ankle support
Please do not purchase new shoes. Do not wear flip-flops, or Tivas. The purpose is comfort and support not fashion.

___ Back Pack
Make sure it is comfortable and only with packed with items you will use on the hike.

___ Rain Gear
Even if it is sunny when you leave the house, weather can change in a moments notice and it is important to stay dry.

___ Dress in Layers
The temperature can change quickly it is important to be able to remove or add layers as necessary. It may be warm at the bottom of the mountain, but at the top it can be significantly cooler. If the wind is blowing, it will feel even cooler than the actual temperature.

___ Healthy Lunch and Snacks
A good lunch should include a good source of protein and fruit. Students should also bring a good snack to eat at a long the way.

___ Water
It is important to stay hydrated. Please bring water or Gatorade. Please do not bring soda or energy drinks.

___ Sunscreen
Once we are above the tree line, you will be exposed to the sun. Please make sure you wear or bring sunscreen.

Optional Items:

___ Camera
There will be a lot of beautiful vistas, pants and animals that will be you to take a picture. Bringing a camera and trying your best to capture the best photo is an excellent way to enjoy your hiking experience.

___ Binoculars
Gives you a close up view of nature and helps you see some of the finer details.

___ Field Guide
This will help you name the different plants and animals you see.

Mount Mansfield Field Trip

On September 3rd, House A will be going to Underhill State Park, to climb the highest peak in Vermont, Mount Mansfield. Each student will set their own goals as to how high up the mountain we go. The cost of the trip is $10. If you need financial assistance, please let Mr. Smith know and we can make alternative arrangements. We would love to have parent chaperone's on this trip, if you are interested please return the chaperone form with your student's permission slip. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Smith at jsmith3@mtsd-vt.org or 893-5529.

9/3/15 Ice Cream Social 5:30-6:30pm

Dear Families of House A,

The House A teachers would like to formally invite you all to an ice cream social on September 3rd, 5:30-6:30pm in the House A classrooms.  This will be a nice chance for families to meet and greet the team of teachers and for teachers to get to know students and families better as well.  Mark your calendars!  We look forward to seeing you there and working closely with you throughout the upcoming school year!
