Humanities Homework 11/12/13-11/15/13

Students should be writing a compare/contrast paragraph in response to the Pocahontas video.  This requires at least 3 pieces of researched evidence. The research process was modeled in class, which asks students to use a key word search and quoted evidence from a credible web site.  The written portion must use compare and contrast language and follow the super format.

Additional Thanks to Team A Families


We would like to extend a special thank you to all parents that were able to contribute to, attend, and assist with our first team breakfast of the year.  It was such a pleasure to enjoy a bagel and a cup of coffee together with Team A parents and students, before the hectic holiday time begins.

 We are especially proud of our students’ overall behavior in relationship to the habits of mind while attending the breakfast, and throughout this first trimester.  As some of you were able to witness, each week a team is able to select one person from each grade that has demonstrated growth in one or more of the 5 habits, perseverance, precision, preparedness, flexible thinking and citizenship.  Unfortunately, only one selection per grade level can be made, as it is difficult to choose so few when so many consistently practice these habits with great success on a daily basis.  Team A is a very special group of individuals that we sincerely enjoy working with.

The House A teachers would like to extend a big thanks to everyone who contributed to our team breakfast on Friday.  We thought this event was very successful and plan to have more breakfasts throughout the school year.  It's always enjoyable to nourish, not only ourselves, but our larger team community.  Thank you for such a pleasant way to end our week!

Humanities 11/5


A Hawaiian Football paragraph is the latest assignment students have received back and can make improvements upon if they so choose.  This assignment will also be placed in their portfolio for conference times.  Students are expected to pass in a final copy of their narrative myths this week. 

Team Breakfast, Friday, Nov 8

Reminder:  Students will be having a “House A” continental style team breakfast.  Students have been asked to sign up in advisories if it is possible to bring in something to share.  The breakfast will run from 7:30- 8:15 on Friday, November 8.  Parents are welcome to attend.

Math Nov 5th

Grade 8 has been upgraded in PowerSchool.  Students can still do corrections and submit work.  Papers were returned today.

Tasks:

Fractions Decimal & Percent reflection for portfolios.  They also have one for their notebook & a choice piece which they feel has shown growth.
corrections are expected if they have not earned a 3on their assessment

Students are also working on reflections for their portfolios.  The three pieces are the Fraction, Deciamal & Percent assessment, their notebook, & a choice piece which they feel demonstrates growth in understanding.
