Hello 8th grade families,

We wanted to let you know about two important events occurring tomorrow at the high school. Tomorrow from 6:00-8:00pm is the (1) High School Course Fair and (2) the Opportunities Fair.  We've included the flyer for both events so you can have more information about them.  If you have any questions about these events, please communicate with the contact people listed on the flyers.

T2 Progress Reports

Greetings Odyssey Families,

We wanted to let you know that progress reports were handed to students on Thursday and Friday of this week.  We are requesting that parents/guardians sign the cover letter along with the student to ensure that it reached the desired destination and that it was reviewed by each family.  The student should return the signed cover letter to their advisor as soon as possible.  If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact the team.  Enjoy the weekend!

LA Homework January 23-30 Reading Logs 11 & 12

Students will be reading a great deal in class this week.  We will be heavily focused on reading and rereading primary documents.  For this reason, there will be no reading log 14, however many students still have not completed reading log 12 from January 9 using the Swedish fish article or
reading log 13 ,from January 16, using the newsela article on "workers" vs "slaves" language in textbooks.

Science Update

Students have been working diligently on their science fair projects.  At this point, students should have completed their background paragraphs, question/problem statement, variables and hypothesis/design criteria.  This past week, we worked on procedure writing and key elements to data tables. I would like to see more students staying after school to work on their projects.  Weds-Friday after school is best.  Please email me if you have any questions or would like to schedule an after school session.  This week, students should be experimenting or building their prototypes.  This can happen at school or at home.

Trimester 1 Report Card

Greetings Odyssey Families,

It has been brought to our attention by a good number of our students that several families have not received their 1st Trimester report card.  We wanted to look into this claim and check with families.  If you have NOT received the T1 Report Card, can you please email your student's advisory teacher.  If you are unsure of you student's advisor, please ask them.  We will try to mail out a second copy to families that have not received the first.  Here is the email list for our advisory teachers.  You can click on the name or copy the address next to the name to send the email.

Science

Students are working on their science fair projects and are doing background research on their topic of interest.  The research they gather will be written up into 3 background paragraphs that will go on their poster.  Next week, we will return the unit 2 Ecosystem Matter and Energy assessment.  It has 4 grades associated with it.  As always, students can and should make corrections to strive toward mastery level learning.  Please ask them about their test and their plans for making corrections.  Email me if you have any questions.  Students will also be creating testable questions or design problems to move forward with their science fair projects if they haven’t done so already.
