Science Fair attendance confirmation

Hello students and families,

We are quickly approaching the Science Fair night on Thursday, February 12th from 5pm-7pm!  Students and teachers have been working hard to prepare for the event.  There are a few things we need to plan and we need your help.

Students will stand by their posters for a 30 minute time period (5:00-5:30, 5:30-6:00, 6:00-6:30, or 6:30-7:00).  We will sign students up for any time slot unless there is an important scheduling conflict.

Please fill this out and return it to your science teacher.

Science Conclusion Paragraphs

Students should use this weekend to catch up on their science and engineering fair project write ups.  On Thursday, students were given 2 graphic organizers to help them write up 3 conclusion paragraphs. Each paragraph addresses a different skill (claim and using data as evidence, identifying experimental errors and applying results to a larger context.)

There are many students that still need to write up this component of their project and should do that for homework this weekend!   Their work is in Google Drive and, if you have internet access at home, can be shared with you! We will begin poster construction on Tuesday of next week.  Science and Engineering Fair is on Thursday, 2/12 from 5-7pm.

Seeking Science Fair Judges

Dear House A families,

Your child has been working hard on a science fair project that he or she will present on Thursday 2/12. An important part of a child's science fair experience is having the opportunity to present their work to an authentic audience of judges and community members. We need 70 judges to make this night a success, and we currently have around 50 confirmed. If you have training or experience in a scientific, medical, engineering, or technology field, you could help!

Your role as a judge would involve attending a brief judges' orientation at 4:30, and then judging approximately 12 projects at your own pace. The event ends at 7:00PM. You would not judge your own child's project.

If you have any friends or contacts with scientific, medical, engineering, or technology expertise, please send them our way, too! Please let me know if you can help us celebrate the accomplishments of our budding young scientists and engineers on February 12, between 4:30 and 7:00.

And if you don't have a science background - don't worry! Your attendance and support of your child's hard work goes far!

Thank you for your support of your child and our learning community! See you on Thursday 2/12!

Cordially,
The Science Team
