English/Language Arts Update

Students are in a humanities unit called Ecological and Human Footprint. They are currently reading The Omnivore's Dilemma by Michael Pollan. Through this book, instruction, and activities, students are learning about the human footprint and the ecological footprint. They are investigating how their choices as consumers impact their human footprint. We are using online activities that calculate people's lifetime consumption of various goods, services, and natural resources. Students are reading How Sugar Changed the World by Marc Aronson and Marina Budhos in Social Studies, and will read excerpts from Salt: A World History by Mark Kurlansky and Cod: A Biography of the fish that changed the World by Mark Kurlansky.
