Science & Engineering Fair Information Night

On Wednesday December 21st from 5:30-6:30pm, Mr. DeCicco will hold an information night for the upcoming Science And Engineering Fair (SAEF.)  Attendance is optional but recommended.  We will discuss how to best support your student during the SAEF, the after school support hours and expectations for work out-of-school, where to find the SAEF assignments and what your learner can do over the holiday break to be in a good position when we return from the new year.  Please email Mr. DeCicco if you are interested in attending or cannot attend that day but would like to know the information discussed.  This information is best suited for families of 6th grade students or families of all grades that want to increase their support for their student.

Team Breakfast & Report Cards

Thank you to all the families who joined us for our annual Team Odyssey Breakfast!  It is a special event and a wonderful way to culminate the first trimester.  Congratulations to the students who were awarded students of the trimester!  We look forward to your continued growth. A special thanks goes out to families that donated items to the breakfast and/or contributed their time by cooking or helping out!

Reports cards are in the mail and should be arriving home this week.  If you have any questions or would like to discuss them, please email or call the team.

Science weekly email 12/9

Students conducted a paper helicopter investigation this week in science that started them thinking about the SAEF.  We looked at the key parts to an investigation (testable question, hypothesis, variables, materials and procedure.)  Students also investigated the amount of energy in food by burning cheetos and measuring the change in water temperature.  On Friday, students had a chance to burn-test food items of their choice to measure the amount of energy contained.  This upcoming week, students will explore the various ways they use energy and learn about the 10% rule which will connect back to the ecoscenario projects and food webs done earlier in the unit.
