Grade 7
We have been working with proportional relationships and have established the characteristics in both tables and graphs. Tables will be able to find a constant of proportionality, k, where x is multiplied by k to produce y. The variables x and y are either given or developed through the context of a story. Graphs that are proportional create a straight line and pass through the origin, (0,0). We are currently working on Lessons 8 & 9 developing the understanding of how to make these relationships into equations with x and y being preserved as variables and k becoming the constant of proportionality.
Grade 8
We have been writing and solving linear equations these are equations where the variables have exponents of 0 or 1 and they make straight lines that pass through the origin when graphed. We are currently working on breaking word problems into pieces, converting them to symbolic notation, then solving them using the distributive property, combining of like terms, the property of equality (for all four basic operations) and other patterns.
