Cairn's Arena field trip rescheduled
We rescheduled the Cairn's arena skating trip for Thursday, March 13th. Please contact us if you have any questions.
Science
Students are conducting experiments to find how much energy are in various foods. Students should bring in a small item of food that they would like to test. Students should also sketch out on a piece of paper or in their notebooks how they think they would improve upon the contraption we used in class today to burn test food. We will test these items in class on Tuesday, 2/19 and discuss their contraption sketches within the next couple of days.

Science Fair Success
Congratulations to all House A students for participating at the MMS science fair! Thanks to the families for supporting your son or daughter throughout this process and thanks to the students for their hard work leading up until the fair. I am very proud of our young scientists and enjoyed hearing them talk confidently about their experiments.
Today, in class, students reflected on how the Habits of Mind (persistence, preparedness, precision, citizenship & flexible thinking) played throughout the entire science fair process. We plan on discussing their reflections at the upcoming portfolio conference, 3/12-3/13. Nice work House A!

Humanities Homework 2/10-2/13
First, let me explain that no student should have homework. There is enough class time to finish work, if time is used properly. Drama students were asked to schedule time last week after school to catch up. They are the only exception to the homework rule. This week is also available after school.
Tonight (Monday) students are responsible for finishing their 3 paragraphs of the history book chapter, so that they may continue with the class as expected tomorrow. Students saved their work to their mymtsd accounts so that they can access them from home as well.
Tuesday homework will be to finish writing an introduction and conclusion, as well as to begin organizing their chapter on Google draw. The organization includes titles, headings, sub headings, graphics with captions, 5 paragraphs (intro, 3 descriptive paragraphs and a conclusion) as well as a separate works cited document. Again, all of this is scheduled for class where there is more than enough time to complete each task.
Wednesday Night- Science Fair... and finishing touches for chapter if class time is not used wisely.

Science
All students should have completed and reviewed by a teacher their:
1) Testable Question, 2) Hypothesis, 3) Materials List, 4) Procedure, 5) Data Table, 6) Graph and 7) Conclusion that has 3 paragraphs.
If these pieces have not been completed, students are highly encouraged to stay after school on Monday and Tuesday to work on them.
Every MMS student has received a poster (through 2 grants that we were awarded) to use for the science fair. We have glue, construction paper, scissors and other basic items too. However, students are also encouraged to bring any other items from home that will help them to 'jazz' up their posters.

Science Fair, 2/12, 5:00-7:00pm
Dear family and friends of Milton Middle School students,
Milton Middle School is excited to be holding a Science Fair on the evening of February 12, 2014, from 5:00 to 7:00PM. This event will coincide with the Milton Community Dinner, which begins at 4:30, so you can enjoy a great meal before experiencing the impressive work our students will be showcasing.
Over a nine-week period, our students will have designed, tested, analyzed, and presented a project that uses scientific methods to solve a problem. Students will present over 300 projects in the middle school gym. Students will set up their projects in the gym during school on Wednesday afternoon. Each student will be assigned a window of time during which he or she must be stationed at his or her project to interact with guests and judges.
We expect all students in grades 6-8 to attend the fair. All middle school sports have been canceled on the night of the 12th to facilitate everyone's attendance. If your child will not be able to attend on the night of the 12th, please inform his or her science teacher immediately. We are planning spots for every student to present his or her poster, and organizing judges, so we need to know as soon as possible.
We're looking forward to recognizing and celebrating the hard work of our students. We look forward to seeing you!
Sincerely,
The Milton Middle School Science Teachers

Humanities Homework 2/6/14
Students need to enter class with the first paragraph of their chapter written. This was started in class by most students. Also, all research from 4 sources needs to be completed and was due on 4/6 well. Drama and band students are far behind the rest and must use after school time to compete their work. I have invited any and all students after school to catch up or get ahead and few have taken the offer. I will be after school on Friday, February 7 as well.
